Welcome back! Although it felt more like a Spring Break than a Winter break. I hope everyone had a wonderful week. We will be hitting the road where we left off with our learning. Please be on the look out for Reading at Home folders. Be sure to have your child read the books and complete one of the comprehension and fluency activities listed on the back of the folder. Students have been doing a good job of returning their books. Please remember the importance of reading at home and send the folder back to school promptly so that your child can return with more books.
Upcoming: All homework calendars are due on Wednesday March 1st! Please make sure your child has completed all the assignments and a parent has initialed the calendar. Students will receive a Panther Pause for showing responsibility as a student. Keep up the good work! March calendars will go home on Wednesday as well. Read Across America Day is on Thursday March 2. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! We will be reading and participating in fun Dr. Seuss activities all day long!

We have been busy!! Oh, what fun we have had learning new things the past few weeks! Reading: We have been reading stories with familiar characters and looking for similarities and differences between them. We also have been reading Non Fiction books about Groundhogs and Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Phonics: We are still working on making CVC words and producing words that rhyme. Our weekly spelling tests have been a huge success. I am so proud of each and every student! Social Studies: Please continue to practice your address! We will continue to work on this standard all year. We just started learning about Presidents day and have been studying Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Math: We are solving addition and subtraction word problems using objects, pictures, and a number line. We are also composing and decomposing numbers within 5 and 10. Family Bingo Night is Friday January 27th! This is such a fun event! We hope to see you there!

Goodbye 2016 and Hello 2017! As we close out the year we will have some very special events in our classroom. Please be on the look out for information about our Holiday celebration in your child's blue folder. Our class Holiday Celebration is on December 21st! Please let me know what items you can donate to help make our party a success. Pajama Day is on Wednesday December 21st! Hoot of the Week: This year we will have a student who will be chosen as our student or Hoot of the week. If it is your child's turn to be Hoot of the Week they will bring home a green paper explaining the activities or duties of the Hoot of the Week. I hope you are enjoying the first taste of fall weather this week! Please remember to write your child's name in the jacket. We have already started to collect many jackets in lost and found. If your child is missing a jacket please ask them to look in lost and found.
Upcoming Events! Thanksgiving Lunch celebration and Annual Thanksgiving Play Thank you for returning the lunch count invitation. We are so happy so many parents can attend. Please join for our Thanksgiving Performance immediately following lunch at 11:15 on Thursday November 17! Book Fair! The Book Fair will be here next week. Don't forget to come and check it out or you may send money with your child during the week. I hope everyone had a wonderful Fall Break! Here are a few things to be aware of this week.
1. Monthly homework calendar will go home on Tuesday 10/4. 2. Conference preference sheets: Please fill out a preferred day and time to meet for conferences. I try to schedule students with siblings at SP back to back. Please try to be as flexible as possible. If the assigned time does not work for you please let me know promptly so we can reschedule.This is our only formal conference this year and you will receive your child's report card at that time. 3. Title one parent meeting will be held on Wednesday 10/5 at 8:00 AM. We hope you can make it! Our first Field Trip is coming up! Green permission slips and payment envelopes were sent home earlier this week. Please be sure to sign and send back to school on or before Wednesday August 31st, 2016. If you would like to volunteer as a chaperone, please let me know. Thank you for your support! This is going to be a wonderful experience for our students.
